Population Growth, Agricultural Development and Its Impact on the Environment in Moradabad: A Geographical Study

Abstract

Population growth, agricultural development, and environmental problems are important physical, economic, and social issues for a country like India. Their study makes it easier to analyse the interrelationships between agricultural development, the population dependent on agriculture, and the environmental problems that arise thereafter. Agriculture and population development have a close relationship. Since a large proportion of the population is engaged in agricultural activities, the pressure of population on the agricultural resources available in a particular region continues to increase, which indicates a serious problem for the future. Continuous degradation of the environment can also be observed in the region. Therefore, to address this problem, it is essential to undertake a critical geographical analysis at the regional level of various aspects related to the agricultural–population ratio, assess the actual pressure of population on agricultural development and the priority of agricultural development, and thereby reduce population pressure in order to resolve environmental problems.
