Role of women in home Poultry farming at Athani Taluk
Main Article Content
Abstract
The study examines the role of women in home poultry farming in Athani Taluk of Belagavi district, Karnataka. A sample of 150 women poultry rearers was selected, and data were analysed using the average percentage method. The findings indicate that women are the primary caretakers of poultry, mainly rearing indigenous jawari (desi) hens under traditional management practices. Despite limited resources and lack of government support, home poultry farming provides supplementary income and improves the economic status of rural women. The study highlights home poultry farming as an important livelihood and empowerment activity for women in rural areas.
