Narrative sensitivity in Hindi Literature

Abstract

In this paper, the meaning and usage of the word 'Samvedana' has been discussed. Etymologically, the word 'Samvedana' is formed by adding the prefix 'Ram' to 'Vedana' (pain), which means similar pain. According to 'The New Dictionary of Psychology', in psychology, sensibility is a state that arises when the senses are stimulated and which cannot be analyzed in an essential way. In literature, the meaning of 'Samvedana' is different from the psychological meaning. Here, 'Samvedana' is used in the context of those moods and feelings that are related to the consciousness of the writer. Literary sensibility shows the power of the reactions of the mind, through which a person understands the happiness and sorrow of others and identifies with them. According to Acharya Shukla, sensibility means the experience of happiness and sorrow. Dr. Devi Prasad Gupta described literary sensibility as that state of mind of consciousness that creates creative inspiration and faith in public life.
