The Harmony of Devotional Sentiment and Philosophical Reflection: In the View of Dr. Kapildev Dwivedi
Main Article Content
Abstract
"Bhaktikusumāñjaliḥ", composed by Padma Shri Dr. Kapildev Dwivedi, is a Sanskrit lyrical poetry (geetikaavya) that presents a unique synthesis of devotion (bhakti), philosophy (darshana), and poetic beauty (kāvya-saundarya). In this work, the spiritual experience of the union between the soul (ātman) and the Supreme Being (Paramātman) is expressed through profound philosophical reflection. This composition not only strengthens the devotional-philosophical stream of Indian intellectual tradition but also gives it a vibrant and living form. Bhaktikusumāñjaliḥ occupies a distinctive place in the tradition of devotional poetry, and it is of immense significance from the perspective of both Indian philosophy and Sanskrit literature. It showcases an excellent confluence of emotion (bhāva), language (bhāṣā), meter (chhanda), and ornamentation (alaṅkāra), which elevates it to a position of literary prestige. The expression of emotions by Dr. Dwivedi in this work is not only devotional in nature but also infused with metaphysical contemplation (tattvachintan). This lyrical poetry serves as a powerful representative of Indian culture, religion, and spiritual consciousness, deeply touching the reader’s inner being and inspiring self-reflection (ātma-vimarśa).
