Abstract
Swami Vivekananda was a visionary saint, thinker, and social reformer who presented revolutionary ideas in the fields of Indian culture, spirituality, and education. His philosophy of education focused on the holistic development of the human being, encompassing physical, mental, intellectual, and spiritual aspects. According to Swami Vivekananda, the true aim of education is to awaken the divinity inherent in every individual. He considered education as a means for character building, self-confidence, self-reliance, and national unity.
In his educational thoughts, practical knowledge, yoga, moral values, and Indian culture were given prime importance. Vivekananda emphasized reviving the guru-disciple tradition and inspired teachers to become ideal role models of character. According to him, teaching methods should be based on concentration, self-discipline, and self-awareness. He regarded the mother tongue, science, art, and yoga as essential components of the curriculum and laid special emphasis on women's education.
Swami Vivekananda’s educational philosophy remains relevant even today and paves the way for connecting the Indian education system with human values, national consciousness, and spiritual awakening. His thoughts continue to serve as a source of inspiration not only for India but for the entire world.
